D.F.

i wish i could accurately convey to you the mixed melancholy and thrill of being alone in what seems to be the hugest city in the world.

this is the most intense time to be in mexico. the results of the last presidential elections (occured july 2) have been contested. the PAN candidate won by a very narrow percentage, but the election is said to have been fraudulent. thousands are now protesting in favour of the PRD candidate, Obrador, who supposedly should have won. the zocalo in mexico city has been taken over by masses of demonstrators and squatters. tents have been pitched and stages set up. every day a cacophony emanates. i wonder what the denouement will look like?

i think i am in love with this country. it has invaded me.
